When does the reimbursement of guaranteed deposits take place?
In accordance with the Act on the Bank Guarantee Fund, the reimbursement of guaranteed deposits shall take place no later than 20 working days from the day of fulfilment of the guarantee condition, i.e. the day of suspension of a bank’s operations, appointment of a receivership and filing a bankruptcy petition. An extension of this deadline may be approved by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, but by no more than 10 working days.
Where can guaranteed deposits be collected?
After suspension of a bank’s operations, guaranteed deposits are paid out by the receivership or an entity contracted by BFG to carry out the reimbursement, which will take place at a location and within a timeframe announced publicly by the Bank Guarantee Fund. After lapse of the deadline of this timeframe, guaranteed deposits can be collected by depositors for a period of 5 years from the day of suspension of the bank’s operations.
In what currency are guaranteed deposits paid out?
Both deposits denominated in PLN and those denominated in foreign currencies are covered. Irrespective of the currency in which a deposit is denominated, reimbursement of guaranteed deposits is carried out in PLN.
