Jointly organized by the World Bank Financial Sector Advisory Center and the Bank Guarantee Fund, the international roundtable seminar Challenges for European Deposit Insurance Systems: Funding, Investment Practices and Reimbursement was held on 26th February 2015 in Warsaw, Poland. The event was attended by over 30 participants, including representatives from European deposit insurance agencies, central banks and supervisory authorities, as well as the World Bank, the European Commission and the European Banking Authority. The aim of the seminar was for deposit insurance practitioners in Europe to benchmark best practices, enhance their systems and explore avenues for closer collaboration with other financial safety net participants, both at a domestic level and on a pan-European scale. The presence and active contribution of representatives from European authorities like the EC and EBA is reflective of a broader institutional engagement in tackling the challenges facing European DISs as one of the means of advancing the goal of financial stability.
