The delegation of the Bank Guarantee Fund (BFG) under the leadership of Jerzy Pruski, the President of the Management Board of BFG, took part in the 38th IADI Executive Council Meeting of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), which was held between 4-7 of February 2013 in Ottawa and jointly hosted by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) and the IADI. The Executive Council meeting was conducted by Jerzy Pruski, the President and Chair of the Executive Council of IADI since October 2012. It was preceded by meetings of IADI standing committees.
On 6 February 2013, IADI successfully concluded the first annual conference of its Regional Committee of North America (RCNA), which focused on the importance of cross-border cooperation in the resolution of large banks. Speaking on this occasion Mr. Pruski accentuated that as globally important financial institutions grow, the process of winding down their operations when they fail and protecting financial stability requires cooperation among countries where these banks do business. He also stressed that the discussion on cross-border resolution is of critical importance for deposit insurers because directly or indirectly, our industry will be in the centre of this process. Therefore, he said, the deposit insurance community must enhance its capacity to anticipate the changes in the global financial architecture and make every effort to contribute to the search for optimal solutions.
Mr. Pruski added that in this context, events like this RCNA conference – hosted by the CDIC are a precious opportunity for IADI members from all over the globe to come together to share experiences and explore ways to become stronger components of the financial safety net.
